camping

THE WOODS

Even though we’re located close to downtown Freeport, just a 20-minute drive to the center of Portland, and not far from some of Maine’s most beautiful beaches, our campground is nestled in the peace and quiet of a lush Maine forest.

We have 23 sites (18 with water and electric). Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit ring. Brand new bathhouse. Firewood for sale. One-of-a-kind natural playground. Bring your dog. Trailers and RVs under 20' welcome.

Currently closed for renovations.  We are upgrading our water and electrical infrastructure and building a handful of (gorgeous) A-frame cabins. As soon as we have a solid estimate when CMP will be done with their part of the construction, we will open up reservations. We are targetting mid-June 2021. Email reservations@desertofmaine.com if you want to be notified when the reservation system opens up.

THE BARN

The historic Tuttle barn is the first stop on our guided tour of the Desert. From it's legendary move to Freeport to it's posts and beams that date as far back as the 1700s, it is a structure emblematic of New England farming culture.

And as such, there are plans underway to preserve and renovate it to be a unique space for arts and events, making it the centerpiece of a thriving arts center accessible to anyone and everyone hungry for music, beauty, and creativity.

THE

PLAYGROUND

Our one-of-a-kind natural playground boasts 6 different elements for kids to climb, balance, and slide on. Each element was hand crafted by local artisan Steve Smith of Renaissance Timber using hand-hewn, local wood including some reclaimed from trees removed from our property.
